Bishop Bill Murdoch will be our retreat speaker for the 2017 Clergy retreat, Feb 8-10 at Shocco Springs Retreat Center in Talladega, Alabama. Registration for clergy and aspirants is now open.
From the Anglican Diocese of New England:
The Rt. Rev. William Murdoch (“Bishop Bill”) was appointed Bishop of the Anglican Diocese in New England in 2009, after serving as rector of All Saints Episcopal Church in West Newbury, MA since 1993. His vision for the diocese encompasses first, the great commandment to “ love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30), and second, the great commission to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matt. 28:19)
Under his leadership at All Saints Episcopal Church in West Newbury, the parish saw extraordinary growth in attendance, giving, and discipleship. He led the congregation’s membership from The Episcopal Church to the Anglican Church in North America in 2007, and in 2009 he became Bishop for the Anglican Diocese in New England. In 2012 he resigned as rector from All Saints’ Anglican Church to focus on his increasingly demanding role as bishop.
Bishop Bill has led regional Alpha Holy Spirit Weekends of more than 200 Catholics, Episcopalians, and people from various Christian Churches. His leadership and passion motivates training clergy and lay leaders in the Alpha program and other ministries that foster the renewal of faith in the local church. He has served as an adjunct professor at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and has seen many from around the diocese ordained and others currently in the ordination process. In addition, he continues to actively develop resources for parish churches, including the annual Clergy Day, which ministers to the diocese’s Anglican leadership. Bishop Bill has served in short-term missions in India; teaching and preaching visitations to Madras, Bangalore, and Calcutta; SOMA team trips to Uganda; and development for adult and youth mission groups.
Bishop Bill holds a B.S. from the University of New Hampshire and a Master of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He has read for Holy Orders in the Diocese of Massachusetts and was ordained to the priesthood in May 1986.
To balance an incredibly active schedule, Bishop Bill retreats with his wife Sally to their cottage in Maine. There he enjoys fishing, reading, and the company of their adult children: Peter, Ryan, and Megan.
