The Anglican Diocese of the South calls upon our brothers and sisters to join us in praying for those affected by the shooting today on two military installations in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
A local Anglican pastor shared the following: “Pray for emotional health. Pray for the families of the victims. Pray for those wounded. Pray for Chattanooga. Lord, have mercy.”
The Mission Chattanooga has also requested our prayers, “We pray for our city every week. We invite you to join us, especially today, to pray for Chattanooga. We pray for the 4 marines who lost their lives today in Chattanooga. We pray for their families. We also pray for the CPD officer wounded on duty today, and ask for his speedy recovery. ‘Lord, hear our prayer…'”
The Bishops, clergy, and people of our diocese join our local churches in prayer and support for the people of Chattanooga, especially the families of the victims and all those affected.
A Prayer for Those in Bereavement in Chattanooga, Tennessee
O merciful Father, who has taught us in your holy Word to mourn with those who mourn, and to weep with those who weep: Look with pity upon the sorrows of those affected by violence, especially the people of Chattanooga, for whom our prayers are offered. Remember them, O Lord, in mercy, nourish their souls with patience, comfort them with a sense of your goodness, lift up your countenance upon them, and give them peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
A Prayer for Service members
Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
